On Teej day women and girls enjoy the Teej together by dancing, singing and playing. On Teej day females do fast for their husband and also perform some rituals for their husband’s long and healthy life. Women do shopping for Teej and wear dresses, suits, sarees, lehangas of bright colors like red, green and yellow. On the day married women pray to God Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to bless them with happy and long married life. Girls apply henna on their hands. New lyweds girls receive the gifts such as clothes, bangles, mehandi and sweets from her parental home. Kids enjoys flying Kites and welcome the day with full of enthusiasm. Teej refers to the monsoon festivals, observed particularly in western and northern states of India and Nepal. The festivals celebrate the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds with social activity, rituals and customs. Teej welcomes the monsoon and observed in the month of Shravan.

Teej Festival in Jaipur 2017
The festival of Teej in Rajasthan is a two day celebration. The idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati are named as Gangaur and Teej, respectively. Special Teej songs and dances are organized along with swings. Another name given to the festival of Teej is ‘Gangaur’. Special sweets, especially Ghewar are prepared and offered to the deities. During this time, special processions of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are taken out to the streets.
